About Meredy Birdi
Registered Dietitian and Nutritional Therapist
Founder, The Cancer Dietitian
I’ve worked in specialist cancer nutrition for more than 25 years across both the NHS and private practice, supporting people through treatment, recovery, and life beyond cancer. Over that time, my work has been shaped by what people need in real life.
I always wanted to work in a hospital. I loved it, and I still do. Understanding treatments, medications and complex symptom management, and the privilege of supporting people at a vulnerable time as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Why I trained in both disciplines
Again and again, people asked wider questions - about nutritional supplements, complementary therapies, the lifestyle changes they could make safely, and how it all fitted together.
That’s why I trained as both a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritional Therapist: so I can answer the full range of questions people bring, safely and in a way that fits alongside medical treatment.
Working with people at every stage of cancer care has shown me how important it is to hold several things at once: the medical realities, the practical nutrition and lifestyle questions, and the lived experience of day-to-day life with cancer.
Cancer can change your relationship with food. Things you once felt sure about can suddenly feel uncertain. Advice is everywhere - often conflicting, and rarely tailored.
People don’t usually come to me because they want more information. They come because they want clarity, and confidence that what they’re doing is right for them.
That’s the work I do.
Supporting you through cancer is about much more than food alone.
It's about navigating side effects that make eating harder, protecting strength and muscle when energy is low, and adjusting when appetite, digestion, or weight change.
At other times it's about supporting recovery after surgery, strengthening bone health during endocrine therapy, preparing for treatment, and thinking ahead to longer-term health.
Food. Symptoms. Energy. Strength. Recovery. The emotional side of it.
I’m here for all of it. Whatever’s happening, we work with it.
I’m here to listen, guide you, and help you feel confident in your choices.
My Background
My career has been rooted in specialist cancer nutrition across both the NHS and private practice, including roles within leading UK cancer centres.
I was one of the early Macmillan Dietitians, and I continue to work closely with several cancer charities supporting people through treatment and beyond. I currently serve as an Executive Committee member of the British Society for Integrative Oncology (BSIO).
I am one of the few UK professionals dual-qualified as both a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritional Therapist. This allows me to combine deep clinical oncology experience with a broader whole-person perspective - bringing together the medical realities of cancer care and the nutrition, supplement and lifestyle questions people are exploring.

How I Support You
I offer one-to-one nutrition support in unhurried sessions, with space to talk things through and ask questions. Appointments are online or by phone, so you can join from wherever feels most comfortable.
Our time together is shaped around your situation. We focus on what’s relevant and leave aside what isn't helpful.
If supplements are appropriate, I guide you carefully alongside your medical care.
We think things through in a practical way - translating information into steps that feel doable and realistic, so nutrition supports you physically and emotionally.
This is your life. I’m here to support you in living it.

Kind Words
Meredy is a true master at supporting people to better nutrition after a diagnosis of cancer, no matter where they are starting from and what their goals are. She has a truly unique mix of deep knowledge, decades of practical, clinical experience supporting people with a wide range of physical and psychological barriers and helping them to eat well, as well as genuine kindness, honesty, generosity, thoroughness and person-centredness. She is one of the few practitioners in the UK who combines the practical, evidence-based knowledge of a hospital dietitian with the holistic perspective of a nutritional therapist. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
