Support for families during cancer treatment

Family testimonial about cancer nutrition support with Meredy Birdi during cancer treatment

Working with Meredy has been a blessing during what has otherwise been a very difficult time for our family. Seven months ago, my father was diagnosed with colon cancer, and for a while, everything seemed to stand still. Each new day brought an urgent need to find answers - the right answers to questions we were often afraid to ask. We did not know where to begin, whom to trust, or which path would lead us back to a sense of normality.

I will always be grateful to L. for sharing her own experience with cancer and for recommending the people who helped her overcome the disease. One of those people was Meredy, and I still remember her exact words: “Apart from being very competent and highly professional, she is also a very good human being.” That last part stayed with me, because it was exactly what we needed - someone who truly cared about my father’s wellbeing and his journey toward recovery.

It is difficult to fully describe the support Meredy and her team provided. They were consistently kind, sincere, and deeply committed to helping both my father and our family. Since my father does not speak English, I translated during our calls. Meredy was always patient, paying attention not only to what he said, but also to how he expressed himself - his tone, his gestures - so she could better understand his emotional state. She was the only specialist during his treatment who showed such care for his feelings, taking the time to understand how he was coping and how we, as a family, could support him.

Meredy guided my father through chemotherapy and radiation therapy and supported him through two operations. She provided clear, practical guidance on his nutrition, daily habits, and overall approach to food. She also helped us choose the right supplements, always explaining the reasoning behind her recommendations. She never relied on one-size-fits-all advice and consistently considered what was available to us locally, as we do not live in the UK.

She was always understanding when we needed to reschedule meetings and showed genuine compassion during the more difficult moments. In an era of overwhelming information - where everyone seems to urge you to take immediate action, follow strict rules, buy certain supplements or books, and eliminate things from your life - it is easy to feel constant pressure and doubt. In that context, it meant a great deal to hear words of reassurance such as, “You are doing a good job. You and your loved ones are doing your best, and that is what truly matters.” It was a profound relief to receive that kind of understanding and care.

One of the most valuable pieces of advice she gave me was to stop worrying about every small detail and instead remain calm, trusting that the small changes we were making together would gradually improve the bigger picture and support my father’s recovery.

I am happy to say that my father is now home after his second operation. He is feeling well, optimistic, and full of plans for the future. I am deeply grateful to Meredy and her team for helping us reach this point in our journey, and I wish them all the very best.

For anyone considering working with Meredy and her team, I would wholeheartedly recommend them. Beyond their professionalism and expertise, they provide a level of care and compassion that truly feels like an extension of family.
